So last night Amy and I headed over to John Pierson’s house for an Even in Blackouts basement show/Halloween party. They are leaving in less than a week for a European tour to promote their new album, The Fall of the House of Even, which comes out on Oct 31st (although they were selling it after the show).
It was a costume party, but Amy and I had just come back from Vegas so we did not have any time to find suitable costumes (the theme was ‘dead’). Only about half of the about thirty people at the party were wearing costumes, so I guess it was ok. Everyone was required to bring homemade food, so I baked some brownies the night before (from a mix but that still counts!)
Even though the show was basically a live rehearsal for their tour, it was still really good. They (and by ‘they’ I mean John) only messed up once or twice. Liz sounded great, as usual, especially during some of the new songs. We had to leave after their main set because it was getting late, but I know they were planning on playing some acoustic stuff during the rest of the party.
Oh, John did mention that our wedding song, Liz and Matt’s version of Angel’s Wings by Social Distortion, is the closing song of a bar in Barcelona. How funny is that!

So our friend Kyle was in town for an Anesthesiologist convention. He lives in Palo Alto, so we wanted to take him to a restaurant with a cuisine that he wouldn’t normally find in the Bay Area. On Saturday we went for some Greek food at Greek Islands, and on Sunday Amy and I decided to take him to Szalas for some Polish food.
After ringing the bell to be let in, we heard a band playing in the bar. During dinner, a large party was seated near us, and the band meandered from the bar to play for them. Our waitress joined the band and sang; she had a pretty good voice. Then two people from that large party got up and started dancing. Our waitress told us that they were famous Polish actors, but I guess we’ll never know. Anyway, the food was good, as usual, and the atmosphere was great that night!

The two playoff games held on October 8th were very exciting, although my favorite team, the Double Crossers, did not make it to the championship game. The Double Crossers played the Fury, and the Manic Attackers battled the Hell’s Belles.
The Double Crossers looked like they were going to lie down and hand the game over to the Fury, as they were down by 15 or 16 points at the half. They seemed to come out ready to fight for the second half, though, and tied the game as the buzzer sounded. That meant a 2 minute overtime jam would decide the winner, which the Fury won.
In the second game, the last place Hell’s Belles overwhelmed the Manic Attackers to secure their spot in the championship game against the Fury. Should be a fun time on November 12th!

Not much to look at considering she’s only 3 months along in this ultrasound. Amy and I are saying “she”, but we won’t actually know until we get another ultrasound next month.
We have also decided to decorate the baby’s room with scenes from The Tick. Anyone with suggestions/creative abilities are more than welcome to lend a hand! Spooooooon!
